Skyscrapers Souqs and Sandscapes of Qatar

By Irene Butler - Since tales of Aladdin swept my imagination away on a magic carpet in grade school, my desire to journey through the Arabian Peninsula has not waned. Sixty years later, I am to realize this dream. My husband Rick and I arrive in Qatar, the small country that jets into the Arabian Sea like a thumb off Saudi Arabia’s border, to discover how this culture steeped in tradition has melded with modernity. Souqs, Sandscapes, Oases & Endangered Turtles of Oman

Souqs, Sandscapes, Oases & Endangered Turtles of Oman

by Irene Butler, Published in WhatTravelWritersSay E-Zine. and Travel Writers Tales A sense of tranquility wraps around us as we gaze at white latticed buildings and mosques wedged between charcoal mountains and the royal blue Gulf waters. Based around a Bedouin village, this town flaunts a fabulous tourist strip along the water with hotels, cafes, restaurants, grocery stores, souvenir shops, and (though we did not count) 100 diving schools. He has continued to follow his father’s commitment to create a positive moderating role within the Arab region and the world. There was a chill in the air when we arrived in the capital of Amman, so after one night we took a “Jett Bus” south to Aqaba for the...
